Different Portrait Poses - Page 31

The following couple of pages have photos that were done with a light panel rather than my usual 60" white umbrella. The panel is 4 foot tall by almost 4 foot wide. It's made of white polyester material streched over a window screen frame. I have been reading about light panels and how they soften up and diffuse the light more than a umbrella will and decided to build a test frame. From these pictures I can see it really does. I can see these would work on people portraits but I'm not sure if it is what I want for dogs. It does look promising enough to do some more testing though. Since the panel is so big, it took two light stands to hold it up in the right position. Because of this I had to take the light stand from one of my fill lights and the piece I use to black the light so it doesn't flare across my lens. Once I get another light stand I will do some more tests. The light panel was set at about 45 degrees to camera left. My SP-6400 was aimed at it from about 2 feet away. The panel was about 3 feet from the dog. I had the Sp-6400 at almost full power, which gave me a reading of f22. I wanted to the small f stop for the depth of field. To camera right and positioned just behind the dog was my SP-1600 shooting through my 45" white umbrella. It was set for about f13. It was this light that my light blocker (called a GoBo for go between) would have gone between my camera and the light. It appears that I did get some lens flair because of the loss of contrast in the picture. I'll have that fixed before I try it again. At the camera position I had my Photogenic 3001 strobe without an umbrella to provide some front fill light. It was set for about 3 f stops less than the light panel. One the next page I show two pictures, one with the fill and one without so you can see the difference a front fill light provides.
